Bupa Health Insurance COVID-19 FAQ

Why do you need health insurance?

Overseas Student Health Cover is a compulsory health insurance product required by international students studying in Australia. OSHC is an insurance product that basically gives international students a level of insurance coverage that is based on the Australian Medicare system.

When you finish your studies as an International Student in Australia, you’ll need to switch from your OSHC (Overseas Student Health Cover) to a Temporary Graduate visa with accompanying health cover.  When applying for your 485 or temporary graduate visa, you must provide evidence that you’ve made appropriate arrangements for health insurance in Australia for the duration of the visa processing period and for the duration of your visa.

Overseas Visitors Health Cover (OVHC) is a form of health insurance which is designed for visitors to Australia who do not have access to Australia’s public Medicare system for medical or hospital expenses. OVHC insures against potential expenses you may incur if you require medical or hospital treatment.
